DONORS PAGE

Crew is a club sport in Fairfax County schools, so we receive no funding from OHS or FCPS. Our funding comes entirely from team dues, fundraising, and donations. These funds are used to purchase boats, equipment, insurance, regatta fees, and even to pay our own wonderful coaching staff for their hard work. The team’s funds are managed by the Oakton Cougar Crew Booster Club (OCCBC), made up entirely of parents of current OHS rowers. The OCCBC Board of Directors, a group of parent and student volunteers, meets monthly all year and works together continually to manage the team’s finances effectively. All of the equipment our rowers use all year (boats, ergs, launches, etc.) is purchased by OCCBC (see below for an idea of what these items cost).

We also depend on fundraising and donations to fund a limited number of athlete scholarships in order to maximize the number of students who can afford to participate in Oakton Crew. Rowing is a sport that helps athletes develop amazing physical fitness and endurance, mental toughness, and synergy between team members. High school students who participate in crew have a different understanding of what it means to be “in sync” with your team and put individual egos aside to work for a stronger whole. As a result, rowers develop life skills that translate into success in college and work internships, and ultimately into successful careers. We believe it is critical to make this unique sport accessible to as many high school students as possible.

Our athletes, coaches, Board of Directors, and parents organize and run several fundraisers yearly to support the team. They also provide donations of food and volunteer service throughout the year. All this work is essential to keep Oakton Crew successful. We deeply appreciate the support of our community in helping us in these efforts.

The Oakton Cougar Crew Booster Club (OCCBC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and your donations are fully tax-deductible to the extent allowable by law. Donors will receive a tax receipt by email. Questions? fundraising@oaktoncrew.com

A NEW BOAT CAN LAST A DECADE OR MORE

Your $400 gift helps our club afford new (or new to us) shells to keep us competitive! New 8-rower boats cost around $45,000, so we take excellent care of our fleet to ensure our boats last and last.

WE’RE NOTHING WITHOUT OUR OARS

A $300 gift helps purchase one new sweep oar — and we use 4 or 8 in each boat. New oars help the rowers maximize their efforts with each stroke, and a good set can last for many years.

OUR BOATS ARE FAAAAST…….

COXSWAIN SUPPORT

Coxswains keep the boat moving together & provide rowers with crucial information to make every stroke count. A gift of $200 helps purchase equipment to make their voices heard!

Seats Clear.jpg

ONE SEAT, TWO PAIR OF SHOES

Each boat contains a sliding seat and a pair of shoes bolted to a foot plate for each rower — a gift of $150 allows the team to buy either one new seat or two new pairs shoes.

KEEP OUR BOATS OFF THE GROUND

Getting ready for races requires a pair of slings for every boat — $100 buys a sling to literally support our shells.

OAR GRIPS & COLLARS & CLAMS (oh my!)

A gift of $75 buys 8 new rubber grips for oar handles, or collars and clams for oarlocks (shown in lime green) — we can make old oars feel new again with new grips and collars.

KEEP OUR OARS IN PLACE

A $50 gift pays for a new backstay — which is the metal pole that holds the oar at the proper distance from the boat.
